MP-1 pair of chairs, 1961

Percival Lafer
Material: solid jatobá wood, injected foam, fiberglass, steel, tissue
Year: 1961

This chair was designed by Percival Lafer when he was only 25 years old. It was the first piece produced under the Lafer brand and immediately became popular with young Brazilians. According to the author's confession, when one of the furniture stores accepted it for sale, he would come to the window at night and admire his work. Curiously, in this project the designer was guided by the principle of modular design. For example, several armchairs can be combined to form a sofa by removing the armrests.
