Rodrigo Almeida
The work of the Brazilian artist, who has become known for his experiments in conceptual furniture, reflects his search for his own identity. As a descendant of Portuguese, African and indigenous Latin Americans, Rodrigo Almeida tries to express the spirit of three continents in his paintings. Technically, these works hover on the edge of painting, etching and even sculpture. Hand-scraped on wood, they captivate with their scale and intricate detail, while the islands of pure colour evoke the emotions of Brazilian carnival and the vast jungle. Rodrigo Almeida has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions. These include Endemic (Milan), Entre Nous, for Maison Christian Lacroix (Paris), Poética de miscegenação at Fat Gallery (Paris). His works are part of the permanent collection of the National Centre for Plastic Arts in Paris and the Lee Edelkoort Collection, also in Paris. Since 2009 he has collaborated with the NABA Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, where he gives master classes and participates in exhibition projects. He has created limited series and unique works for galleries such as Legado Arte (Brazil), Gal Gaon (Israel), Contrasts (Shanghai) and many others. In June 2024, his work represented Brazil at the Jingdezhen Ceramic University Art Museum Biennial in China.
